Flight Of The Fledglings

Song:  The Hawk And The Eagle

Artist:  John Denver

There are two male fledgling falcons that had hatched just a short while ago
and my wife has been following their development on the Falcon Cam.

They are now learning to fly.

I could not help but draw a parallel to Alex and me.

Alex is now soaring in his life.

He is doing well at UC Berkeley...
and I have finally started writing again.

Seeing my son soaring inspires me to start
exercising my own wings.

Right now...
Alex is the soaring eagle...
and I am a fledgling sparrow...
but...
I have hopes of being able to fly one day.

I am now on chapter three of the first of three books I intend to write
(This will be my first attempt at a book...
so why not start with a trilogy  :)

(I had lost an outline for a book last year when my computer crashed...
but instead of replicating that outline...
I allowed it to take on a whole new direction...
which led to it being a trilogy).

As I am a fledgling writer...
it is time I also fly.

I may never soar...
but...I will finish these books
(I have plans for more after the three.
I just love writing).

They have been calling out to me...
and it is now time to answer that call.

Writing and music
are my favorite passions.

I will also be composing accompanying music
for certain scenes in the books.

I will include the sheet music for them as a free download...
and I am planning to record them with free downloads as well...
for all who get the books...
at least...that is my plan right now.

As I am imagining the scenes I am writing about...
music just keeps playing in my head...
so, I will just compose whole songs of what I hear...
to fit the particular scenes I wish the readers to become part of.

How long this project will take is unknown.
It may take years...
but I am just enjoying the whole process.

No...
I am not so deluded to think I will make any appreciable amount
of money doing this.

However...
it is a passion I just love doing...
and...most importantly...
if I don't...
the music and voices will just keep getting louder....
:)

Right now...
the ideas are just flowing...
but then again...
I am only on chapter three of the first book  :)

Often times...
certain scenes come to me as I am playing music...
or listening to my favorite songs...
and often times...
as I am writing...
certain melodies come to me.

It is strange how this works...
but it works.

I keep my bass flute right in front of the computer so I may play a passage any time
the melodies flow.

This will allow me to lay down the melodies before I forget them.
(It had happened before.  I was laying in bed and just about to sleep...
and a certain melody started playing in my head.
I was so certain I would remember it when I woke up...
but no...it was gone.)

So now, I will immediately play it as I had heard it in my head...
and then write the notes out as I had just played them.
I never want to lose a melody again.

This is the way I had composed the few other songs I have completed.

A tune will come to mind.
 I will play it...
and I will just build on it from there.

The same thing is happening with my writing.

I just imagine scenes, as if I am watching a movie...
and I tie them together.

I just write what I experience in the movie of the mind...
everything from what I see, think and feel, from the eyes of the particular character
I am writing about...or the surroundings from a birds eye view.

I am having the time of my life.

My only problem right now is editing as I go.
I must not explain everything I experience as it will bore the reader...
so I had to delete much already.

I tend to get too wordy at times.

But...
I think in the end...
it should all flow.

I am most active from late evening (8-9 PM) till early morning (5-6 AM).

I just stay in my room with my instruments...
the computer...

and in the company of Hana.

She loves sleeping on my bed as I write away on the computer
or as I practice my bass flute...
or stumble my way on the one classical guitar song I know so far  :)

She is funny though.

She always sleeps where I lie down.

I have to move her over if I wish to lie down...
if even for just a short while.

She never learns...
she always goes back to my side to sleep...
sometimes with her head on my pillow...
or she will just take over the whole bed.

No matter...
whenever I lie down...
my side is always warm  :)

  2. On some nights, everything flows. On others, nothing at all, and so, I won't write anything. It is okay. If I try to force it, it will show in the results. Also, this way, it is pure enjoyment for me.
