Alex's Last Finals / Atlantis Buffet

Song:  Linger

Group:  The Cranberries

Just this last Friday...
Alex finished his last exams for the school year.

He took his AP Micro Economics and his Honor's Physics Exams...
and 4.5 hours later...
he emerged from his high school testing center (proctored)
with a big smile on his face  :)

Hell year is officially complete!  :)

This summer Alex will be working on his university application essays...
studying Japanese...
and studying for his advanced Physics subject test coming in a few months.

He will also be applying for a part time job at a math school.

So...
for the most part...
Alex will be able to relax from the hectic schedule
that he had as part of his normal pacing for hell year
(3rd year high school...the last year completed before university applications go out).

(Alex had completed all the university math classes that he could...
so, UNR has no math classes that he may take this summer).

For the Fall semester...
Alex will be taking two university classes at UNR
(Differential Geometry / Japanese)...
and he will be taking World Literature at Mountain College...
and at his high school...
he will be taking...
AP Psychology / AP Government / AP Environmental Science / Speech and Debate /
and Driver's Education.

Alex had performed well in all of his classes.

To celebrate...
Alex wanted to eat at the Atlantis seafood buffet.

The buffet not only has all kinds of seafood to eat...
but it has a wide variety of meats and ethnic foods.

The have a meat station where you are served how ever much of which ever meat you wish.

They had Prime Rib...Rib Eye...Blackened New York Pastrami...
Italian Sausage...along with other types of meat.

They also had creamed horseradish...Au Jus...and other accompaniments.

There was also a deli station nearby.

There were two rows dedicated to various seafoods.

There were various iced shrimps...
smoked salmon and smoked trout...
boiled and iced crab...Icelandic Herring...calamari...
and many other types of seafood.

They also had a separate iced raw oyster station.

Alex wanted a variety of seafood...
and various types of ribs.

This was my second plate.

On my first plate...
I had various types of seafood.

I then ate tacos...
and when I ran out of taco shells...
I then made the remainder of food into a Mexican salad.

Alex and I then headed to the desert bar.

The had a milk and white chocolate fondue.

There was a wide variety of chocolate dipped fruits...
eclairs and other pastries...tarts and custards...
simply too many of which to even get a moderate sampling of what they offered.

Alex settled on a chocolate mousse cake and some kind of mousse parfait...
and we shared the cotton candy.

I had a slice of apple pie...
and a pecan pie tart.

Alex then tried his mother's mint and chocolate gelatos.

This was on our way out
(We cross the skyway to the parking lot).

This skyway has my favorite restaurants on it...
The Oyster Bar...and Skyway Terrace Sushi.

For the past few days...
and until we leave for Las Vegas in a few days...
Alex has been practicing for the ARML Nationals.

We will be gone about 8 days.

We will spend 3 days in Las Vegas for the competition...
and we will then drive to Southern California to take a tour of two major universities...
eat and relax on the Santa Monica Pier...
and tour a college, before we head back.

We only scheduled one tour per day...
since the traffic can get heavy in Los Angeles.

Alex will be driving much of our journey over the eight days
(Not in Las Vegas or Los Angeles...
as the traffic can become quite heavy in these two areas).

------------------

My elder sister will be staying at my mother's while I am gone.

I had stocked up her deep freeze with many kilos of seafood.

For her kitchen freezer...
I will put in the most used foods.

Just before I leave...
I will fully stock the fridge with all of my mother's favorite foods.

My mother particularly loves rotisserie chicken...
and rotisserie turkey breast
(she loves to make turkey sandwiches with this...
as even the turkey breast is moist and flavorful.
She also loves sliced Hawaiian sweet bread for her sandwiches).

We will also make some of her favorite pickles before I leave
(Daikon Reno Red Hots...She will slice the Daikon...
I will mix the pickle juice and mix in the Korean red peppers).

I will make sure to stock her up on salads as well.

-------------------

I bought extra camera memory cards for this trip.

I fully expect to take many hundreds of photos...
perhaps even thousands  :)

This year...
we will try to see the Bellagio water show in Las Vegas.

Last time...
it was cancelled due to high winds.

I will publish the photos of our trip upon our return.

  1. Wow! What a buffet! Just the selection of desserts alone would make it an amazing buffet.

Have a wonderful trip! I look forward to reading all about it when you return.

  2. Yes, the buffet is great. We go there every once in a while. However, we make sure to go only when we are really hungry.

The trip will be tiring...but, besides the competition...I am very much looking forwards to trying some new restaurants. And, although I had spent the majority of my life in California...I have never been on the Santa Monica pier. I am looking forwards to that in particular. I will have to devote many articles to our upcoming trip.

    1. It has been a while since I've been to southern California, but Santa Monica is one my favorite spots out there. I'm sure you will have a great time.
