Recap of Week 4 - Alex's Driving Lessons

Song:  Caarano Pi

Group:  E.S. Posthumus

At the conclusion of today's lesson...
Alex is now finished with his fourth week of driving lessons.

He has been steadily improving...
and his anxiety levels have greatly decreased as a result
of his increased confidence...
all due to his daily training.

This past week...
I had Alex start one hour later so he could experience rush hour traffic more.

We then completed most of the week driving downtown traffic...
and with our last day driving the Northstar route
(to his high school, his university, and to his college...
all by highway).

There had been an accident which had backed up two highways.

It is ridiculous to have this many fatalities on our roads.

Alex well knows the seriousness of driving.

He shall be getting much experience through a wide gamut of driving experiences
through the directed and progressive driving program
from which I am having Alex learn (mine).

The first day...
I had Alex drive on the highway...
and then cut on to a major downtown road for the trip back.

We went past the Atlantis...
and continued through downtown.

Just on the other side of downtown is his university.

Alex also got to experience some light rain.

For the next several days...
we started out downtown for the way up...
and back.

After yesterday's lesson...
after a short rest at home...
we got back on the highway and Alex drove us to a downtown Sushi restaurant for dinner.

I told Alex...
that from now on...
whenever we go somewhere...
he will be driving.

There was another accident on the cross highway.

This backed up two highways.
This was another good experience for Alex.

There were many late and forced merges from other drivers
for Alex to contend with.

He had handled all of the traffic with ease.

We are nearing the restaurant here.

We had a nice meal...
and then Alex drove us back home.

Today was our last day of week four practice.

We had already gone to his high school and past his university.

We are at his college here...
practicing his parking skills.

I had Alex park...

and then get out and walk around to see how centered he had parked the car.

There are two major research centers near the mountain college...
one is a seismic research center...
the other is this...
the Desert Research Institute.

Alex is doing so well with his driving lessons.

For all of next week...
I will have him concentrate on nothing but highway on ramp and off ramp merging...
in rush hour traffic.

For the following week...
I will then have him drive nothing but narrow and curvy mountain roads.

------------

This Sunday...
Alex will be driving all the way to our old house in Ripon, California...
over three hours away...
and on the other side of the Sierra Nevada mountain range.

And on the way back...
he will be driving at night.

Alex has many good memories of our old house.

I will be taking a lot of pictures of our old neighborhood and house...
of course.

  1. Looks like Alex is getting exposure to driving in some heavier traffic. Is he patient in bad traffic? He has been doing well so it is good that he starts to get experience in driving in traffic.

  2. Yes, Alex has far more patience than do I. Actually, I am the one who is impulsive and impatient. Alex has a much more calm demeanor. He is practicing highway merging in rush hour traffic all this week...other than the one long distance drive this Sunday.
