UNR And Mountain College For Alex This Summer

Song:  Che Vuole Questa Musica Stasera

Artist:  Peppino Gagliardi

Alex had begun his summer class at Mountain College in Reno...
Music Appreciation.

Starting next week...
Alex will also be starting another summer class at UNR...
Intro To Mathematical Proofs
(this should be an easy class for Alex...
as he has been writing mathematical proofs for a couple of years now).

Alex will also be starting another Japanese class.

This week is busy.

Shortly after I pick up Alex from his Mountain College class this Thursday...
we will be going on a nearly 8 hour drive to Las Vegas...
where, on Friday and Saturday...
Alex will be competing with the NNV Math Club at the ARML Nationals.

Although the NNV Math Club had taken 6th place in the nation last year in their division...
this year, they were not only bumped up to the top division...
they had also lost many of their most experienced mathematicians
for this year's competition.

Still...
it should prove to be a good learning experience for many of the new and younger members.

Alex had just taken his Honors Chemistry Final at his high school...
and I then drove him to Mountain College.

Starting next week...
I will be taking Alex to UNR for his math class...
and I will then pick him up and take him to Mountain College for his class there.

Alex eating his lunch before the start of his Music Appreciation class at Mountain College.

After today's class...
we had to stop in at the student book store...
and spend $113.00 for one Music Appreciation book!

I then had Alex go back to his class to see if his teacher was still there
so he could verify that the correct book for the course was purchased
(there was a different edition at the book store than that which was
specified by the teacher).

I had to wait but a few moments for Alex to return.

The teacher had already gone home.

I wanted to try a hot dog eatery which was supposed to specialize
in nothing but hot dogs.

I ordered one Polish Dog...
and one Chicago Dog.

I had Alex try a bite of each.

I could have never had him try these just a year ago.

He took one small bite of the Polish Dog.

Alex then took a larger bite out of the Chicago Dog.

Alex said they were alright...
but he still hadn't liked them much  :)

I was quite surprised.

This is a place which sells nothing but Hot Dogs.

I was disappointed!

These dogs were not grilled...
they simply tasted boiled!

The toppings were good...
but I have eaten better dogs out of the gas station near home...
where they at least have a proper hot dog grill.

I will never understand specialty meat places which do not
purchase the right equipment.

A fire grill is a necessity.

If not...
then at least get the proper griddles, rotators, or whatever
specialized pieces of equipment which will slightly char the outside of the meats
while keeping most of the juices of the meats on the inside.

As I had said before...
this year at the ARML Nationals...
Alex is going to be far more independent.

He is going to sleep in the UNLV dorm with his team.

We will be taking him to dinner...
but otherwise...
he will be with his team.

I have the car stocked with 5 hour energy drinks...
my iPod is fully charged...
and we will be heading straight down the middle of Nevada this time...
as we will have to start late because of Alex's Mountain College class.

My next article will be next week...
and it will cover the ARML Nationals.

  1. Sounds like Alex will have a busy summer.

Kind of funny that Alex doesn't like hot dogs but at least you got him to try it. I prefer charred to boiled, too!

  2. Yes, he really likes his college and university courses. He goes every weekday for about two hours a class.
Later this week, he will also be taking another semester of Japanese online. Alex is having a good time.
