Alex's Essay: Multi-Faceted Concerns And Conundrums Of Space Exploration

Song:  Baker Street

Artist:  Gerry Rafferty

As I have said many times before...
a high school student MUST master essay writing if he is to do well
at university.

This was just one of the many essay assignments Alex had through his school.

He averages three such essay assignments a week
(from all of his classes).

Only through much practice will a student be able to complete
the many writing assignments expected of a university student.

Alex is still a tenth grader.

If a student does not become fluent in the thought process and mechanics
of essay writing early on...
he will not have the time necessary to fully develop this skill...
and to be able to perform as if it were second nature.

It took Alex approximately two hours to complete this essay assignment.

Yesterday...
we had a talk with one of Alex's teachers, and the school counselor.

Alex's English teacher was impressed with Alex's essay...
and she feels he will do well with his AP test in English next week.

As, this summer, Alex will be attending Mountain College for Music Appreciation...
going to UNR for Intro to Mathematical Proofs...
and taking another Japanese course...
we had to ensure he will get dual credit for his college and university courses.

Everything seems to be set.

Alex has been taking AP exams...
and next week, Alex will be taking his UNR Game Theory final exam.

-------------

As Alex has been studying extra long hours everyday in preparation for his many
finals and exams...
he deserved a momentary break.

Last night...
we gave Alex his choice of places to eat.

The Atlantis casino has this great seafood and meat all you can eat buffet
on Friday nights.

This was Alex's first serving.

He picked out a Rib Eye steak, crab, smoked salmon, grilled salmon...
shrimp, scallops, and some Har Gow.

Alex now loves Rib Eye steaks along with Fillet Mignon...
as well as Prime Rib.

His palate is now expanding...
although, he still does not like ground beef...not even hamburgers  :)

For my first serving...
I had lobster ravioli, shrimp, Fillet Mignon, Prime Rib, and a baked scallop and shrimp
appetizer.

Alex then went back and got two more Rib Eye steaks...
and a little more crab and grilled salmon.

I went back to get two more Fillet Mignons, lobster ravioli, some scallops...
and some Har Gow.

It is good to see Alex enjoying a wider variety of meats.

I usually don't eat desserts...
but when I am at an all you can eat buffet...
I feel it is my duty to eat as much as I can  :)

I tried some of the cotton candy...
and I gave the rest to Alex.

My wife also rarely eats dessert...
but as they had so many...
she wanted to try many of them.

As we walked back to the car through the casino...
and over and through the sky walk...
my wife started laughing at me from behind.

Because my stomach was so full...
she said I was waddling like a duck  :)

I thought this was cute.

As this machine is so large that they could have fit three regular machines in it...
I think the casino figured that the customers would have thought that
the bigger the spin...
the bigger the win  :)

-------

Right now is Saturday.

Alex is busy studying.

On some nights...
I have to send Alex off to bed.

The other night...
I got home from my mother's at 2:30 AM.

Alex was still up at his computer studying
(he had no school the next day).

Once Alex starts something...
he wants to finish it.

This is a good attribute to have  :)
