Alex's Grandmother Reaches The Apex Of The Night Walk Hill

Song:  Gonna Fly Now

Composer:  Bill Conti

You just had to have known I would use this song  :)

Our day started out with an appointment to see my mother's realtor.

She had to sign off on an addendum to the deal.

In a couple of weeks...
my mother will move into her new home.

Her realtor's office is located in this complex in front of the lake.

After our meeting...
we walked in front of the offices and looked at the small lake in front of it.

My mother had fun looking at some feeding ducks.

Later this night...
my mother reached her goal of reaching the apex of our night walk hill.

The total walk lasted about one hour...
and I have been building her up to this moment for two months.

My mother is 76 years old...
and she was very much out of shape when she arrived here two months ago.

She was not eating healthfully...
she did not exercise...
and she did not sleep well.

In two months time...
she lost 20 lbs of extra fat...
she is adding muscle...
and she is in much better shape overall...
Physically
Intellectually
Emotionally

This was done by practicing the basic three:

A Delicious and Nutritious Diet

Exercise
(weight training / walking)

Deep Restorative Sleep

My mother was actually losing weight a little too fast...
so I took out one night of walking (3 to 2)...
I encouraged her to eat her fill at her meals...
and I took her on several late night burger runs.
She now weight trains twice a week...
and does a night walk twice a week.

Actually, tonight...
in celebration of her achievement...
we are going to engage in a little midnight madness...
a midnight pizza and non-alcoholic beer
at a local 24 hour eatery
(they have the BEST pizza I have ever had).

(Normally, nothing is consumed after supper...
just water...
especially after aerobic exercise.
This way, the body must use its fat supplies throughout the night
to fuel the highly increased metabolic/thermic response from the exercise
engaged in just prior to showering and bedding down for the night.
This is such an important factor in weight loss).

Two months ago...
my mother found it difficult to walk around the block.

On this night...
she had completed her 2 mile hill walk goal with a rucksack on.

In her future walks...
I will be adding sand to her rucksack...
a little at a time.

What does she expect?...
her son is a former soldier  :)

Alex walked beside his grandmother the whole of the way.

We are walking up the hill here.

My mother doing 'The Rocky' at the apex of the night walk hill.

I had her gently increase the distance walked each time we went out...
and after two months...
Victory.

It is funny to see my mother's pace really pick up when she sees our home  :)

------------------

My mother and I just got back from a 1:00 AM Pizza and Non Alcoholic Beer fest.

I am stuffed.

This place is a 24 / 7 sports bar which serves the most outrageously delicious pizza.

It is only a few miles down the mountain from us.

I usually go here between the hours of 1 AM and 4 AM whenever I get a midnight craving
for the best pizza anywhere...with hardly any other customers in the place  :)

Although this pizza is thin crust...
it is not crispy...it is chewy...so deliciously chewy.

You can tell if its a good pizza by the way the cheese refuses to part.

The cheese was top notch...
and the sauce was just so perfect.

The pepperoni was thin sliced...
yet, so filled with great flavor.

This is the holy grail of all of pizzadom  :)

They use nothing but the highest quality ingredients to ensure they have the best pizzas...
to attract people to the real money makers of this place...
the video poker machines at the bar  :)

I don't gamble or drink alcohol...
but I do love to eat.

This was my mother's victory dinner...
a special treat for meeting her goal of making it to the top of the hill.

We had a great night out...
enjoying one of the great simple pleasures of life...
a midnight pizza and beer (non alcoholic)...
the midnight snack of champions  :)

Alex Goes To Lake Alpine II

Song:  Never Can Say Goodbye

Artist:  TwainsBlues (goes by)

This is the second article of this trip to Lake Alpine.

Not too long after departing Lake Alpine on our way home.

Alex taking some photos.

Another alpine lake on our way home.

I believe this one was called Mosquito Lake.

I just pulled off the road for a few moments so we could take some photos.

A few miles from home.

I knew it would shape up to be a very nice sunset by the cloud formations.

Just before getting home...
I had to pull over as I knew the zenith of the sunset would be past.
I then took the rest of the photos of the sunset here.

Sure enough...
the sky started to turn pink...

and the yellows took over the leading edges to turn it into a flame sunset.

As my mother had elected to stay at home to rest...
we first went home to pick her up for dinner at a local Chinese restaurant.

My mother just wanted some samples of our meals and some soup.

Alex had Seafood Chow Fun.

I had Schezwan Beef.

I really love the flavors of their meals here.

When it says hot and spicy...
they mean it.

I love how they do not mellow the spices in their meals to the
typical American taste of bland.

They have the best Chinese meals here
(Silver Chopsticks).

-------------------

Alex and I had also talked about his future...
of how he should also take his future family on such outings
to not only give them the love of the great outdoors...
but as a time which presents an opportunity
to really talk to them in a stimulating atmosphere.

Such memories become a paired and bonded experience.

When they look at the photos of their day...
years hence...
they will remember the lessons given during the discussions
on the drive there and back.

New and serene experiences open up the mind.

An open mind is one which may then be reasoned with.

It is a time which may be spent presenting a logical argument
for a rational way of living, of their future in a macro perspective...
and of a logical path to tread towards an upwards goal of living life well.

We had talked of death...
and of life.

And as always...
the necessity of leading a young life filled with deferred gratification...
of always front loading life with efforts which plant
future fruiting trees for far greater returns later...
and which always lead to a future of things to look forwards to...
of a life which continues to get richer with each passing year.

Always take plenty of photos during all of your outings.

They enrich life with full range memories.

And, once again...
rich memories are what give life its richness.
