Day 2 (part 2) - Alex's 5 State Summer Vacation

Song:  Echoes

Group:  Pink Floyd

This article covers the rest of day 2.

We had gone along the South Rim of the Grand Canyon...
all the while, I had kept my eye out for the best spot for the sunset view.

We had gone all the way to the desert view area...
and then headed back to Moran Point for the sunset.

There were forest fires burning which...
although, had partially occluded the distant views...
 added depth...an almost surreal effect.

From here (Desert View)...
we made our way to Moran Point for the sunset.

Alex loves holding up a stick or a weed and pretending it is a sword  :)

And so, with this last photo...
we made our way to our next stop for the night...
Winslow, AZ to allow us to be near our next stops on our trip...
Meteor Crater, Painted Desert / Petrified Forest...
and the next day... White Sands...
and Carlsbad Caverns for the evening Bat flight
(on the following day we would go back to Carlsbad Caverns for
a self tour of the depths of the caverns.).

  1. You got some great photos of the canyon... including those of your beloved sunset. :) Love the bright orange sky and clouds!

One of the things that struck me was how the look of the canyon itself changed over the course of the day and especially in the last minutes as the sun went down.

  2. I couldn't believe some of the families who were leaving just as the sun was setting! They were missing the grandest view of them all! I wanted to shout out to them all to "FREEZE! Turn around and behold the greatest sight of the day!"

We loved the way the canyon changed from point to point, and as the sun set. It was a perfect day at the Grand Canyon.
