Alex's Two 1,000 Word Short Stories - Short Story Contest

Song:  Surrender

Artist:  Omar Akram

Alex just submitted two 1,000 word short stories
to a Johns Hopkins University CTY Short Story contest.

As Alex is a SET member...
this was a contest for all SET members worldwide.

The winners will have their short stories published in their CTY magazine.

Alex had spent an hour or two on each of his two submissions:

Death in Trusted Hands

Authorized Personnel Only

I was laughing at his second short story...
as I know the reason for it.

Alex loves basements and underground structures.

Everytime we go out...
he looks to see if there is a basement button on the elevators...
and if so...
he wants to go down to see it.

If he sees a stairway leading downwards on a ground level floor...
or an Employee or Authorized Personnel Only area...
he wants to explore those areas.

His first story talks of the selling out of status and position...for greed.

Alex's second story talks more of his personal feelings
about the draw for him to basements and hidden areas.

Again, this second story was so funny to me.

I know this is how Alex feels whenever he talks about underground structures...
and his great desire to explore any subground area whenever we go out.

We are on the verge of learning the location of our next destination.

Sometime next week...
we will find out where we shall be moving to in California.

If one avenue pans out...
we shall be moving to the central coastal area.

Should this not happen...
we will be instituting our contingincy plan...
and we shall be moving to the northern coastal area.

Either way...
by mid summer...
we shall relocate to California.

We will miss Reno.

However...
there are all new areas to explore in our new destination.

As I had fully retired just so we could be fully mobile on short notice...
we will be pursuing what will be best for Alex's future.

Our first option is a dream of an opportunity...
but it is incredibly expensive...
perhaps prohibitively so.

Our second option
will help secure Alex's future as well...
although it will take a little longer.

We have researched both options...
and the available housing in each area.

Both areas open up new and exciting opportunities for Alex.

We should know in less than a week's time.

We are set to begin another incredible journey...
either way.

As always...
onwards and upwards  :)
