Alex Practicing Vollyball And Soccer Skills

Song:  White Winds

Artist:  Andreas Vollendender

Alex has to complete a set amount of sport specific skill practice
for his online high school.

Today...
we went to a neighborhood park just a few miles down the hill from home...
and I had Alex practice specific skills of each specified sport
(today's sports were Volleyball and Soccer).

(No...this is not me :)

When we first arrived...
we had seen this couple practicing Tai Chi.

Alex and I went on down to the lower park...
and I had him practice various Volleyball skills including...
serving, setting, passing, and spiking.

I then had him complete sets of various soccer skills including...
dribbling, shooting, passing, heading, trapping, and throwing
(we just used the Volleyball for this).

Alex had practiced his heading by first tossing the ball in the air...

and then head butting the ball.

He is getting ready to throw in the ball from the side lines.

(I took this photo just as we were leaving for home)

Spring is almost upon us.

It was fairly warm today (66 degrees F)...
but there was an almost constant cooling breeze...
so it was actually quite nice.

For some of Alex's future skill sets...
he will need to swim, hike...
and Power Walk  :)

I laugh at this because what we do on our night walks...
is the epitome of power walking  :)

  1. It seems like team sports is one area where online classes are difficult to match what you can do in a physical school setting. Good that you go out to work on skills with Alex, but it seems impossible to replicate a true game or even team practice environment.

  2. They just wanted the mechanics of each sport practiced so a child could be familiar with them. I wished they just measured through Vo2, body fat, pulse recovery, strength improvement...and then we could pick any sport. The next class allows a child to use a professional martial arts program instead of such assignments. That is much more like it.
