Alex's Snow Train Trip I (Amtrak California Zephyr) - Reno To Sacramento

Song:  Breathe

Group:  Two Steps From Hell

Yesterday...
Alex and I had come back from a two day Snow Train trip
from Reno To Sacramento and back again.

The Snow Train is the Amtrak California Zephyr which passes through Reno...
and goes over the Sierra Nevadas and continues West.

We had stayed overnight in Sacramento...
and had taken the train back to Reno the following morning.

Alex had waited for this for about 10 months.

After Alex had won the Nevada State Mathcounts Championship...
I had promised him that the following Winter...
we would go on this Father and Son trip.

Alex and I upon exiting the public parking lot...
where we would then head to the Amtrak station across the street.

We are boarding the train.
Our trip to Sacramento would take about 5 hours.

We are aboard the train.
The seats were comfortable...
and there was a lot of leg room.

This is the skyview car.
There were tables...

and outward facing seats which allowed full views.

My only complaint was the window divider.
If the objective is the view...it should have been one unpartitioned pane.

Alex and I are here in the dining car where we had eaten breakfast.
We were almost out of Reno in this picture.

We are just beyond Reno as we are going into the Sierra Nevadas.
The Truckee River is shown at the bottom of the picture.

We are above Donner Lake in this picture.

We are on the West side of the Sierra Nevadas and going down in elevation...
and leaving the snow covered areas.

I had taken many more photos of the snow and mountains on the way back.

We arrived in Sacramento in the afternoon and took a cab to our hotel
(Sheraton Grand Sacramento Hotel).

We are in the check-in lobby of the Sheraton.

Alex and I in our hotel room.

Upon our arrival...
we both immediately showered...
and just relaxed in the room for the remainder of the night.

We had eaten early...
and had ordered through room service so we wouldn't have to go anywhere.

We were very tired...
and by 11:00 PM...
both of us were fast asleep.

This was the view from our window.

I had taken photos as the sun set on the scene.

Alex had ordered the Pan Seared Salmon.

I had a cheese burger.

Don't worry...
those two beverages in the ice bucket were non-alcoholic beers...
and they were for me.

Alex had lemonade  :)

Alex relaxing on the cushioned ledge at the window...
as he took in the morning view of the city.

We are outside the back entrance to the hotel as we were getting
a cab back to the train station.

We are at the Amtrak station and walking toward track 5...
where we would board our East bound California Zephyr to Reno, NV.

We had to wait for an hour for our train...
but Alex passed the time on his iPad.

Our ride back to Reno.

Our trip home was much more beautiful...
as we had stayed in the skyview car for almost the whole of the return trip.

Alex had gotten a total of 10 hours of sleep.

We had decided to skip breakfast so we could sleep in...
and then eat lunch on the train.

As there are a lot more photos of the return trip...
I will need to divide them into two separate articles...
for a total of three articles for our trip.
