Alex Watches 'The Sound Of Music'

Song:  Prelude / The Sound Of Music

From:  The Movie Soundtrack From 'The Sound Of Music'

'The Sound Of Music'

Tied for first for the greatest movie ever made...
(along with 'Mary Poppins'...according to the Shiroi Tora awards  :)

The main character 'Maria'...
played by a woman with no peer as a vocalist...
a woman who is unmatched for femininity, grace, and angelic features...
a woman whose great beauty not even time can touch...
Julie Elizabeth Andrews.

(Her picture many decades after the making of 'The Sound Of Music')

Julie Andrews at age 78 as of when this photo was taken last year
(she just turned 79 on 1 Oct 2014).

Julie Andrews...
a woman of such timeless beauty...
and of such great talent...
no woman has ever come close to matching her.

After having watched her two greatest movies...
'Mary Poppins' and 'The Sound Of Music'...
Alex was very impressed with her greatness as a singer...
and I am quite sure...with her great grace and beauty.

Christopher Plummer played the other main character - Captain Von Trapp

Although his singing was dubbed in (singing vocals by Bill Lee)...
he did a tremendous job filling his role as the Captain.

The children filled in the rest of the main cast of this magnificent movie.

The girl on the left (Angela Cartwright)...
if you remember...
later played the character 'Penny' in the TV show of yesteryear...
'Lost In Space'.

I used to love watching it as a child.
I especially loved the original theme song.

After our movie...
Alex and I had our traditional discussion afterwards.

Alex loved this movie also.

He especially loved the music.

Alex liked how the Captain had followed his heart
and married Maria...the woman he had truly loved.

Alex also liked the kindness of Maria...
and her ability to love and guide the children.

Although Alex still has some trouble expressing himself when it comes to feelings...
I gave him a list of categories to think about whenever we discuss movies:

1)  The Story Line:  How engaging it was...
and how true it was to true human nature.

2)  The Visual Appeal:  Beautiful scenery
and the skillful use of closeups and shooting angles
to emphasize the desired emotional effects.

3)  The Audible Appeal:  The soundtrack

4)  The Depth of Character Development:
Of which is measured in how much we care about each character.

Later today...
we shall be driving to a University in San Francisco
to see a presentation by a famous mathematician.

My next article shall cover our day there.

  1. Julie Andrews, especially in these two roles, is one of my favorites, too. The Sound of Music seems timeless; I enjoy it as much now as I ever did.

  2. I was actually surprised Alex had enjoyed the movies as much as he did. We are going to watch more classic movies in the future.
