Alex's Letter Of Thanks To Congressman Amodei

Song:  I'm A Man

Group:  Chicago Transit Authority (Chicago)

Alex had received this award in May for his Patriot's Pen Essay
on the meaning of Patriotism.

For those who may not have already seen it...
this is the link to the article which includes his actual essay:

As there were many things going on in Alex's life at this point...
and he had been busy studying his classes in the summer...
he had forgotten to write a letter to Congressman Amodei
thanking him for his thoughtfulness.

Alex sent this letter to the Congressman last week.

This is Alex's letter to Congressman Amodei:
(these were all Alex's words...no help from me)

Dear Congressman Amodei,

I must first apologize for my lengthly delay in thanking you for your recognition of my essay, via the Congressional Recognition Award.  I realize that I should have expressed my gratitude upon receiving the award.

I am writing to thank you immensely for the appreciation that you had demonstrated by bestowing the Congressional Recognition Award.  By taking the time from your duties as a Congressman, one of the most important positions in the State of Nevada, in order to acknowledge and commend the Patriot's Pen essay associated with the award, you have shown that you truly wish to further the world, by motivating a developing student aspiring to benefit the whole of government even more.

Your heartfelt recognition has truly gone a long way, and as a motivated student, I wish you the best as a Nevada House of Representatives Congressman.

Sincerely,

Alex ******

Although Alex is still only 13 years old...
he has been performing as a man in so many aspects of his life.

Alex takes on challenges as a man.

He proffers no excuses...
neither beforehand as a way to hedge his bet...
nor afterwards...should he fail in his quest.

Alex forges ahead in his quest for knowledge.

He is self driven.

Even now that I have much less need to guide him in his studies...
he schedules his study time per subject on a daily basis...
and all without our need to prod him forward.

He wakes up and starts his daily lessons by himself.

He researches on his own...
he completes his tasks on his own...
and he continues to excel.

He seeks out various academic contests to constantly test himself.

He completed an accelerated course on Statistics
at the University of Nevada over this summer...
and he got an 'A'.

He was also studying several other courses at the same time at home online.

Even when we went skiing for the first time a couple of years ago...
Alex steadily improved without fear.

He was zooming past me on the slopes just his third time out.

That is so Alex.

Although he is cautious by nature...
he seems to be fearless in his endeavors.

His mission in life is to..
explore, observe and absorb everything around him...
question and reason through his observations...
categorize, prioritize and apply his lessons...
codify that which works...into principles...
and to modify that which does not work...
into something which does.

This is the mission of a man
(or a woman in a female's case).

Alex motivates himself.

In less than two weeks time...
Alex will be entering High School for the first time.

He has a vision of a future he wishes...
he has a plan which he follows without fail...
and he consistently produces excellent results.

And...
this is important...
he does nothing which could slow him on his journey to his future...
and he does nothing which could derail his future.

I am just so proud of seeing my son growing into a fine young man before my eyes.

A man defines himself through his actions in the face of duty...
and through his inactions in the face of temptation...
day by day...
moment by moment.

This is the definition of what being a man is.

This is who Alex is.

Alex is a man in every sense of the word.
