Development Of Common Sense III / 11 Pieces From Bill Gates - Part 11

Song:  Final Fantasy VI (III in US) - Epitaph (Extended)

Artist:  Nobuo Uematsu

This is the 11th (and final) article on Bill Gates' 11 rules for school children.

Bill Gates'...

Rule #11 - Be nice to nerds.  Chances are you'll end up working for one.

My perspective:

Be nice to EVERYONE.

As a first encounter...
and until someone proves himself unworthy of your friendship...
treat all as a potential friend.

To do otherwise...
not only limits potential friends and allies...
it tells all others who witness your rudeness that you are...
at the very least, immature...
and quite possibly...not so smart.

It means that you have little in the way of forethought.

It means you will be a future liability...
and quite possibly, someone who will betray them in the future...
as you had tainted all your then, present friends, since the person
you had been rude to will not wish to associate himself with anyone
whom you associate yourself with...if only to avoid you.

It also tells the person that quite possibly all of your friends
may be like you...or at least, in agreement with your actions.

Also, it tells all who sees the unjustified rudeness
that you have no sense of justice or goodness...
your interior is of darkness and not of light...
of having no end game in sight
(inadvertent rhyme :)

By not understanding the end game in life...
you do not know yourself...
and so, you cannot know your friends...
which means your friendship is not true...
which means your relationship with them is superficial...
and by natural extension...
for all others who see the unjustified act...
they see you as one who is incapable of true friendship...
which means you are a superficial and selfish person...
an ignorant lout who will never grow as a person...
someone who operates through pretense because he doesn't think...
and so, one who doesn't realize that others can.

Such a person thinks that others can not see through his actions...
and so, see the person inside...
and that such a person will attempt to put forth transparent lies
with transparently false faces and actually expect others to be fooled...
and so, by extension...they will then know that such a person thinks of them as fools.

This is not to say that a person should become a good liar.

It is to say that the only people in life you may consistently fool...
are not worth knowing...since they are fools...
and the persons you should get to know...
the ones who will help guide you to a better way of thinking...
and so, a better way of life...
will not be fooled in the long run.

So...
by being nice to all as your prime initial action...
you are choosing to be open to all whom are of good...
those who will eventually be successful in life...
and those of whom you may establish true and meaningful relationships with...
for life.

This will also allow you to walk away from all whom are of evil...
without guilt.

It is to be a true captain of your ship...
to not only correctly plot your path for your life journey...
to not only correctly provision your ship for the long haul...
it is to correctly prepare and maintain your ship while still in harbor...
by scraping the parasitic barnacles from the sides...
those which shall slow your journey through their constant friction...
of their robbing your ship of the smoothness and speed through the waters.

Through proper forethought...
it is to spread anti-fouling paint on the hull...
to suffocate the aggressive wood borers whom through their desire
to take that which is not theirs, regardless of the eventual harm...
shall weaken the very structure which is designed to carry you to your destination...
and it is to prevent future parasites from latching on.

By not being initially nice to all...
you are choosing to become a fool...
an eventual barnacle to others...
or to live as a wood borer...
never being a captain of your own ship...
but merely attempting to dine on the planks of the ships of others
instead of being in the captain's galley...
enjoying the best meal of them all...
the royal feast that is earned in life through intelligently guided efforts.

It is to be without the company of other captains with whom you may
enjoy the light hearted banter of true camaraderie over mugs of ale...
and the finest meats and breads in every harbor...
and of the sharing of the tales of your travels...
and of the information shared of the dangerous
uncharted rocky outcrops, currents, sandy shoals...
or of the better routes and destinations from which
future treasures and areas of trade may be discovered.

To wish to be nice to all others...
is to have an open heart...
and an open mind.

It is to respect yourself...
and so, by natural extension...
all others.

Without respect...
there is no love.

Without love...
there is no magic in life.

Without magic in life...
there is no love of life.

Without a love of life...
you are not truly living...
but merely existing.
