Development Of Common Sense - I / Great Words From A Great Woman

Great words from a great woman.

This should be common sense to all.

Although there exists but two main social ideologies...
there exists many subcategories of each, as well as hybridizations.

These, of course, mirror the two basic drives of sentient beings:

1)  The Pursuit of Pleasure

2)  The Aversion to Pain

The pursuit of pleasure (in the non-hedonistic sense) manifests itself
as a social more or as a governmental system...ideally, as a Meritocracy.

Not just as a system of government...
but in the way society naturally stratifies itself.

True freedom lies in the person's desire to improve...
to put forth intelligent efforts toward a specified goal...
to climb the mountain to its peak...
or to merely rest at its base and look up at what could be...
and to know that at any time...
he may just start climbing to reap greater rewards.

The operative principle here is that the stratification
is controlled by the individual.

At any time...
he may choose to not put in effort...
and to live simply...
and make do with just his basic survival needs met...
or he may put in effort to raise himself up...
to enjoy his monetary surplus in however he may choose.

It is all a matter of a trade of time and effort spent...
for a higher strata earned.

How does this tie into one of our main drives?

Simply put...

Example #1 -

You were given the task to pick apples in an orchard as part of a group...
and you were told that greater rewards go to the greater results...
that each individual will earn a percentage of what they pick individually.

Example #2 -

You were given the task to pick apples in an orchard as part of a group...
and you were told that as everyone is equal...
everyone will earn the same amount...
no matter the amount of personal effort given
(paid collectively).

Example #1 is an example of a meritocracy.

It stimulates the pursuit of pleasure drive in us as human beings.

You derive pleasure in the form of appropriate rewards for individual efforts.

It is self regulating...
no need for rules demanding a set quota of production...
no need for neighbors informing on neighbors who aren't working so hard...
no need for enforcers to negatively reinforce the policies.

It operates on positive reinforcement.

People are motivated to produce...
and innovate.

The individuals' creativity is stimulated...
they invent machines to pick more apples for a given effort...
they organize to make their efforts even more efficient.

Example #2 is an example of a Marxist ideology.

The Marxist ideology operates on the principle of Aversion to Pain.

Set quotas are demanded of the workers...
and there are numerous penalties should they not be met...
and they are rigorously enforced through a network of informants
and ideological cadre.

If everyone gets the same amount of reward regardless of effort...
there is no incentive to work more efficiently or to innovate.

Throughout history...no Marxist ideological type of society has ever flourished...EVER.

At best...
individuals had to suffer for the group...
instead of the group providing greater opportunities for the individual...
as the group merely stagnated.

Only when a freer type of individual reward system was emplaced
in purely Marxist type of societies, did they start to flourish.

The contemporary evidence is undeniable.

So...
what is my point?

Actually...
it is not so much what I had written about in the above...
as in how I had explained it.

This is how I talk to my son, Alex.

I explain things from fundamental concepts and principles...
from general to specific.

If you have already noticed...
I explained the what in as general as possible...
as well as the why.

By knowing the fundamental principles or concepts applied...
in the mechanics of the what...
a path to achieving a goal becomes self apparent.

By knowing the fundamental principles or concepts stimulated
in the modes of human behavior...
a path to proper motivation of humans becomes self apparent.

Explain things in the simplest form...
provide a sound rationale...
your child will then have the whats and the whys...
and you will be teaching him HOW to think...
rather than merely what to think.

A logical progression of thought comes from knowing the basic structure...
and having it progress to its components naturally...in the logic tree of the mind.

This will enable a child to not only think rationally...
but it will allow him to be able to think creatively.

By knowing the basic structure of thought...
he will be able to see where the branches are...
or should be...intuitively.

This will make him supremely adaptable.

I will give further examples in later articles...
it is that important.

One very important point...
our children watch our actions...
and listen to our words...
very carefully...
even when you don't think they do.

I learned more from my father through his impromptu explanations and quires...
than I had through his many books in his personal library.

He explained things in the same manner...
what...and why...
in the simplest and most basic forms.
