Alex's Daily Studies - Summer 2013

Song:  See Me, Feel Me - Listening To You

Group:  The Who

Summer allows Alex to concentrate on certain segments of his normal studies.

It is a time of concentrated effort on his strengths...
the natural shoring up of his deficits in small incremental steps...
and a time of working ahead in projected areas to be covered in school
for the following year.

Alex usually sits with his knees underneath his shirt...
and yes...it is a Sheldon "Bazinga" shirt :)
(Alex likes Sheldon from "The Big Bang Theory")

Alex gets himself up and begins his day of studies around 8:30 AM.

He likes working on his math in the morning and afternoon...
and then on his other subjects from the late afternoon until evening.

Alex's main daily math programs consist of his
Thinkwell Calculus II...
and Udacity (College level on-line course) Elementary Statistics.

Alex also does daily math review using:

Alcumus (Art of Problem Solving)
KHAN Academy
MATHCOUNTS (past state and national competition tests)
(components of Algebra and Geometry are inherent in these programs)

Just some of the MATHCOUNTS texts Alex uses.

Alex goes on-line, and uses texts from the Art of Problem Solving.

I work with Alex on his
Essay...
 Reading Comprehension...
and Critical Reasoning Skills...
as well as his special project planning
(we are working toward his science project for next year's science fair).

We start around 4 PM... and are usually finished by 5:30 PM or so.

Afterwards...
I will have him do his workout routine...
and have him take his shower.

He will then have free time before dinner...
and for the rest of the night afterwards.

He will also have interspersed breaks throughout the day.

I was going to type up a guide to the basics of Physics for Alex
(the major concepts and laws)...
however, I realized that by doing so...
I would be depriving Alex of a great learning opportunity.

Starting tomorrow...
Alex is going to research them, and type up his own guide.

Today, we threw around some ideas for his project.
As Alex will be learning elementary Physics in school this coming year...
by his learning all of the principles before hand...
he will be well ahead of the curve.

It will also allow him to understand the concepts necessary
to put together a science project worthy of next year's science fair.

We are going for first place, of course...
but a placement in the top three will be satisfactory
(there is tough competition at his school in science).

Alex's mother has stocked his free reading books on the sofa table
so Alex may just pick one up at his leisure and enjoy reading during his breaks.

Alex has always loved reading...
and, we, of course, have always encouraged it.

His mother is always going on-line to purchase new books for him.

Alex also enjoys re-reading his old books to reinforce the concepts learned.

Alex naturally loves progress.
He loves testing himself to see where he stands...
how far he has come...and to see his rate of growth.

Alex truly understands the meaning of being an Intellectual Warrior.

As I have said many times before
(and even more times to Alex)...
the way of the warrior lies in daily training.

With daily training...
there is no fear of failure...
for then...
and only then...
will you know that you had truly done all that could be done.

Through daily training...
you will be walking the one, and only path...
to the conquering of the self.

Through the conquering of the self...
you will have conquered your toughest opponent.

When you can conquer yourself...
you have no fear of any other opponents.
You then lust for challenges and wider horizons.

It is only when this happens
that all of life becomes an adventure
to live and love fully.

There simply is...
no other way to truly live life.

  1. Alex's self motivation is truly impressive. His accomplishments are rooted in all of the work he puts in during times like these.

  2. Yes, he is very self motivated. He is just now finishing up with his guide to the basic laws and principles of Physics. He is referencing them and I will make an article on the first section of his guide later tonight.
