Basic Firearms Training For Alex

Song:   Crazy

Artist:    Seal

This is a picture of one of a few very large sports stores nearby.
This one is but 10 minutes away from our home.
There are some even larger ones about 20 minutes away...
but as this one suited our needs...we came here.

The guns were not only in the room...
there were whole walls and a multitude of shelves filled with a wide range of firearms.

We are going back home with Alex's new BB gun.

This is an entry level BB gun.
It has a relatively low BB velocity (350 fps).

It is very reasonably priced.
I got this for under $30.00.

I will be using this to teach Alex the basics of firearms handling and shooting.

Notice... I had Alex wear safety glasses...
and we are using a metal pellet trap
(Pellet Traps are safe to use with the paper target only...
not with the included rotating metal targets installed.
They are for use with a pellet as they deform upon contact...the bb will ricochet).

I am demonstrating how to hold the weapon in the shoulder
and how to place the cheek against the stock for consistent sight placement.

With the basics of safety instructions given and demonstrated...

I hand the BB gun over to Alex for the first time.

I am correcting his posture.

I am demonstrating the sight picture he should be seeing through the sights.

One last demonstration of the cheek weld to the stock.

Alex did well in keeping his finger alongside the rifle until he was ready to shoot...
this was taken just before he shot.

His first shot was in the second ring.

Although it was at fairly close range...
it was not bad for a first time shot.

I will eventually teach Alex how to handle and shoot true firearms...
pistols, rifles, and shotguns.

For those understanding the reasons...
besides for basic body control...
then I need say nothing.

For all others...
please read on...
it may save you and your family's lives one day.

-----------------------------

Now...
I must answer the questions that many misguided people in this world frequently ask.

Why would anyone wish to own firearms?

Guns are evil...what is the need for them?

A one word response....
Crazy.

Because there is an inherent capability for man to put other beliefs before
a basic moral code of right...such as greed...
predatory response to envy of the ants by the grasshoppers of the world...
a deeply seated irrational anger (Crazy).

Because there are adequate lessons in life to come to the
extremely rational conclusion that there are some who are evil...
that they will stop at nothing to covet everything that you have to better
their lives (because they lived as grasshoppers all of theirs)...
including taking your, and your family members' lives
(this is not even taking into account extreme circumstances).

And yet...there are those who...in the face of the plentiful empirical evidence
before them...try to irrationally rationalize without the slightest forethought...
not taking into account the plausibility of any number of situations where
predators (four or two legged) will, without hesitation, kill you by whatever means...
to fulfill their wants or needs.

To not spend a one time price of a few hundred dollars for a simple firearm...
for REAL life insurance (proactive vs. passive (after the fact) )...
when you will spend tens of thousands for economic insurance (life insurance)
over a life time...
is the height of irrationality in a sea of rational evidence...
yes...it is CRAZY.

-----------

Why would anyone wish to own firearms?

Because there is the inherent right to self preservation...
and to the preservation of your family...
and the protection of all who are good and innocent...
 from predation.

---------

Guns are evil...what is the need for them?

Guns are tools...
in the hands of the good.

Guns are not evil...
some people are evil.

It is they who make a means of protection necessary...for the good.

---------

There are many more questions by those who simply don't see reality...
or who simply don't use forethought.

I will conclude this with just some of my own experiences in life.

I am a former soldier...
and a retired Correctional Officer.

I am not a gun "nut".

I have fired more rounds...
more types of weapons...
than most people outside of the military will ever get a chance to.

I respect weapons.

As a Correctional Officer...
I had seen into the depths of true EVIL.

I had been mixed in with the true predators of society.

They are the statistical anomalies.

They are relatively few...
but cause an extraordinary amount of death and destruction
in relation to their numbers.

They simply do not think in the same manner as most.

They are extremely egocentric...
and are generally short term thinkers...
they lack compassion...
they lack a feeling for the sanctity of life.

They had lived a life of predation upon the perceived weak.

Many had killed wantonly...
some for short term gains (mere dollars)...
some were mass murderers...
some were serial murderers...
some just for the thrills of the moment.

The only way to stop some of these types of beings...
is to have the training and the firearms to do so.

In the case of a great natural or man caused disaster...
a firearm is a natural survival tool in the wild...
and a means of protecting yourself against those of whom are wild.

Now...
take a close look at this picture...
and truly think.

Will you and your family be the Zebra...
the prey of the Lion?

Or will you be the Elephant...
walking quietly...
but carrying a very large stick?

I say be the Elephant.

With a firearm...
you are essentially carrying your family on your back...
out of reach of any predator.

You won't be unnecessarily violent...
but with your firearms and training...
not even the lion will wish to tackle you or your family.

It will not be the Lion who is king of the savannah...
but you...as you go about your non-violent business of guarding your family...
that is...unless absolutely necessary.

For those who are still unconvinced...
it is not about you or your nebulous (ir)rationalizations.

It is simply a matter of putting your family before any
idealism you may have...
to be willing...AND capable...
of doing whatever it takes to ensure THEIR safety.

Besides...
with a firearm...
it is up to you, at that moment, to ever use it.

Without one...you leave the choice to that of evil...
of the predator... to decide your family's fate.

Always remember...
the key to survival...
is being prepared in the first place.

  1. That Cabela's looks like a fun store to browse!

Regarding firearms, proper training is essential, and I am confident that you are doing just that with Alex. Did he enjoy it better than the slingshot?

  2. Absolutely, training is essential. I would no more put a gun into his hands without the proper training...than would I put a car into his. I think that Alex enjoys shooting the most. He has done the most well with it so far.

Yes, the store is fun to browse. I also wish to see the other stores near us. They are even larger. They claim to be the largest in the region (different company).
