Home Schooling - Physical Training Update

Song:  Circle Of Life
Artist:  Elton John

As I have now retired...
I have added daily training in addition
to Alex's physical training schedule.

As with almost everything...
it is daily practice
that shall provide the most improvement
(an exception is with high intensity training
demanding much longer recovery times...
such as weight training).

After his 4 times a week Karate training...
right after we get home...
he does his latest Kata (form)
from 3 to 15 times.

Then on to the Incline board for sit ups.

It is then on to his kicks on the curved bag.
I am building him up...
right now he is doing just 20 times per side per kick or punch.
I will build him up to 100 times each.

(Although in this picture he is stepping out
with his punch...
I shall have him punch from a
stationary position for now...
as he is not yet ready for more
advanced work)

Right after this comes a light jog.
I shall eventually build him up to
 several miles at a time.

For the 2 times weekly weight training...
we shall do the exercises before the weights...
to thoroughly warm him up...
and omit the jogging for these days.

He then stretches and showers...
and relaxes before dinner time.

Especially for Spectrum children...
as they often have impaired neurological functions...
a lack of fine and gross motor control...
weak neuronal connections to the muscular systems
which initially inhibits not only coordination...
but strength...
Weight Training is essential
to strengthen these neuronal connections
and to teach him how to derive power
correctly...using the largest muscles
of the body to get power from the ground up.

The above link is to another article of mine
describing a viable weight training program
for children.

I shall cycle the above program...
getting the most from it before stagnation...
then on to a 3 x 5 set / rep scheme...
and back when stagnation occurs.

With small increases...
he should be able to sustain
steady growth for years at a time.

Daily skill and stamina/endurance training...
not only keeps his body operating in
optimum condition...
it dramatically improves his mood
and cognitive capabilities.

Excess energy is moderated...
relaxation is improved...
which in turn improves concentration
and sleep.

He will also grow to be far more confident
in body and soul.

After dinner comes his music practice.

Daily study in almost all endeavors
leads to steady growth...
teaches correct work ethics...
and above all...
correct study habits.

With correct study habits established
early on...
all of his life will be made
far...far more meaningful...
rendering his path to his chosen
passions far less convoluted...
and while it won't clear up obstacles...
he will see them...
nay...
he shall look forward to them...
 as his opportunity to grow.

  1. You are doing a great job at giving your son a very well-rounded education. As you say, the physical training is vital to being mentally sharp. It's good to see your son thriving on his challenging program.

  3. Incredible. :)

This is almost exactly what I plan to do with my own son or daughter.

  4. Thank you...correct stimulation of any of the areas of humans (intellectual, emotional, physical) helps with all of the others. Each is important to leading a full life.
