Home Schooling - Concept Of Happiness

 Yuki Saori

Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs...
As synopsized from:

Many decades ago...
a theory developed by Ph.D Psychologist Abraham Maslow...
eventually referred to as Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs...
put forth the prioritized needs of humans in order
to achieve true happiness in life.

Briefly...

Step 1 - Physiological Needs

The basics of survival...
Air...Food...Water...Shelter
in clean and plentiful supply.

Step 2 - Security Needs

The absence of fear from harm.

Step 3 - Belonging / Love Needs

The need to feel loved and accepted as part of a group.

Step 4 - Esteem Needs

Recognition / Respect / Achievement / Competence / Approval

With each achievement he realizes self confidence...
and so...true self esteem.

Step 5 - True Conceptual Understanding

Learning / Understanding / Exploring

The esteem of others is now not the basic drive...
he wants to know the fundamental understanding of his world...
the how and whys.

Step 6 - Aesthetic Needs

Symmetry / Order / Beauty

The discovery of Passion in his interests...
and the beauty of it as it applies to his life.

Step 7 - Self Actualization Needs

Self Fulfillment / Realizing One's Potential

Reaching a pinnacle in ones passion.
The Innovator that creates something of great importance...
The Scientist who puts forth a great theorem...
A musician who creates great music...
A Writer who puts out a great novel.

Step 8 - Self Transcendence Needs

The highest order of happiness...
The need to benefit others / all of humankind

We in the industrialized world need not be concerned with the first two levels
as there is usually plentiful amounts of what is needed...
and rarely are there others ready to take them away.

We generally know nothing about basic survival deprivations...
such as many others in the world who must constantly worry about the first two levels.

Levels 3 and 4 are also easily gotten here for anyone...
merely wishing to try...by not giving up.

It is merely realized more quickly
with more quantity of quality repetition.
The knowledge gained sets the stage for level 5.

By concentrating on level 5 - True Conceptual Understanding...
one may eventually reach level 8...
the only variables are time and imagination.

It is through Conceptual Mastery in one's discipline that leads to excellence.

Aesthetics is realized in the beauty of simplicity in one's art
(with Conceptual Mastery..it becomes art as you may then think creatively).

Self Actualization...
while not a foregone conclusion...
should the child hunt for challenges...
and look to constantly extend his limits...
just the pursuing of his passions...
and the knowledge that through his creative efforts...
a breakthrough is just around the corner...
these alone...
lead to great happiness.

The key is all through...
Conceptual Understanding.

Strive to conceptualize all of your child's subjects.

Give him the governing rules...
the fundamental building blocks...
so he may figure out for himself...
all types of similar problems in that discipline in the future.

To truly understand is to be able to simplify...
rearrange...
discover...
create.

True understanding of one's discipline
allows one to teach it in the most efficient and effective form.

Through Conceptual Mastery...

he may give to others through teaching...
writing....explaining...
helping others..

It is through giving to humankind...
a great new...
more efficient and effective way...
to achieve new heights...
that drives many a man...
as this is his only way to achieve...
immortality.

By ensuring your child has plentiful amounts of healthful foods...

a comfortable home...
free from undue noise and stress...
plentiful exercise and sleep...
an adult to ensure good study habits...
and to conceptualize his subjects...
to protect him from all negative influences...
as well as helping him map out his future...
so the journey becomes his...
and by supporting him with...
bountiful amounts of...

Love...
Affection...
Positive Reinforcement...

he will then be able to set his sights...
as high as his passions will take him.

You will have then given him all he needs to achieve the greatest happiness
a man can achieve...
until he may pass on this knowledge...
to children of his own...
whereupon...

his happiness will multiply.
